About

The Winnipeg Metis Association Inc. is the Manitoba Metis Federation's Winnipeg Region devoted to represent local Metis people. We promote and instill pride in the history and culture of the Metis people through programs we offer. The Big H.A.R.T. program is one of the services offered to teach youth about Metis culture. Monthly coffee houses and yearly street festivals are organized to present local Metis talent. We provide opportunities for our members to improve. A new computer lab was built to help the community gain skills for the workplace and promote other educational opportunities. The Winnipeg Metis Association Inc. has joined together with Habitat for Humanity to build new homes for Metis families. We inspire the community to be involved with our events which could open more doors in the future. Our Road to Gold program assists local athletes to compete on a higher level of competition at the North American Indigenous Games. The Winnipeg Metis Association Inc. drives itself to benefit the community it takes pride in.

Message from Ron Chartrand, Vice-President, Winnipeg Region:

Now that the elections are over, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members who took the time to exercise their democratic right to vote. I also want to thank my supporters for giving me the opportunity to serve the Winnipeg Region as their Vice-President for a second four-year term.

At this time, I would like to congratulate and welcome our two Board of Directors, for this Region, Claire Riddle and Andrew Carrier. I believe we have a great working team to better serve this region.

It is time for us to unite and work towards the betterment of our members here in Winnipeg. One of my priorities for this term is to better inform our membership as to what is happening within the region. One of the ways of doing that is to start the regional newsletter that was discussed during the election. That will be happening soon. Also we will be changing slightly the format of our website to better reflect the vibrancy of our Region. We are hoping to get more input from our members especially our young members regarding this endeavour.

The MMF and the Winnipeg Region are entering exciting times and we hope to keep the communication lines open so as to keep you informed on the latest happenings. These are the land claims, Métis rights issues, cultural events, and new programs which we are developing in the region.

We invite you to keep visiting our website and to send your comments along to us.

We thank you for your continued support et merci pour tout.

Ron Chartrand,
Vice-President
Winnipeg Region
