Board Members

Ron Chartrand

Ron was born in St. Laurent, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg in 1959. Ron was married to his late wife Ferne for 36 years, and they have two children, Todd and Nicole, and two grandchildren, Alex and Isabelle.

Ron's education began in St. Laurent, where he attended St. Laurent elementary school. Continuing his education in Winnipeg, he graduated with his Grade 12 from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate.

Ron has extensive experience in the area of athletics. He has 25 years of coaching experience at the Local and Provincial Level, and is a Certified Level 1 NCCP Theory Course Conductor. He is also a Certified Level 1 NCCP Softball Technical Course Conductor.

Ron has been involved in the community in several volunteer positions for almost 30 years. He has more than 20 years of experience at the Community Club level in different capacities. He is currently Co-Chair of the Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council and Sports Director at the Freighthouse Community Center.

He has contributed numerous hours promoting Metis events and functions throughout North America. Ron is also an active member of the Liberty Local. Recently, he has worked for Inner City Renovations and has been a Sport Consultant with the Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council.

He was elected Vice President of the MMF Winnipeg Region on March 26th, 2003.

Claire Riddle

Claire Riddle was born and raised in Eddystone, Manitoba to Arsene Joseph Spence and Adeline Philomen nee Chartrand. She has four brothers and three sisters. She is married to George John Riddle and they have four sons: Robert, Francis, John and James.

Claire has been involved with the MMF for many years. Her employment history includes working with the Unemployment Insurance Commission, MMF, Canadian Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy, Opportunities for Employment and is currently working with the Residential Tenancies Office of the Province of Manitoba.

Claire was reelected as a Director for the Winnipeg Region in May 2000. She is currently serving as the Chair of Metis Rights and represents Manitoba at the Metis Rights Panel of the Metis National Council.

Andrew Carrier

Andrew grew up in the Interlake of Manitoba, trapping, commercial fishing and has a love for the outdoors.

Andrew started his career in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Ships Diver. Andrew returned to school at the College Universitaire de St. Boniface and obtained a Bilingual Business Administration Diploma, followed by attending the University of Manitoba where he obtained Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Family Studies and continued his studies to receive an Applied Counselling & Human Resource Management Certificates. During the past thirty years, Andrew worked as a Native Counsellor for the Federal Government; Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor; Human Resources Specialist; Director of Programs and Services and Human Resource Manager for Private and Public organizations.

On June 10th, 2011 Andrew was elected on the Board of Directors for the Manitoba Métis Federation – MMF – Winnipeg Region. This is Andrew’s second time on the Board of Directors as he previously served on the MMF Board from 2000 to 2003. Andrew is the Minister of Michif Languages and Minister of the Métis Residential School Survivors.

Andrew has 25 years of volunteer experience within the Métis, First Nation and Persons with Disability non-profit organizations.
