Road to Gold held their first Hockey Camp just before Christmas at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena. Road to Gold is the Winnipeg Metis Association's sports program that targets Metis youth to be involved and challenged with a variety of sports. There were around 45 youth participants who joined this free camp and had a great time. Thomas Parenteau, Road to Gold coordinator, had organized and delivered the program with coaches Kevin Genaille, Jocelyn Larocque, Chantal Larocque, Lance Cartwright, and Nicole Chartrand. The camp was divided into two age groups, four to seven and eight to eleven. The younger hockey stars were taught basic hockey skills while the older hockey champs dove right into drills. Watching them play a game at the end of every day was great as they also learned themes of sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork. CBC and CTV came down to cover the fantastic program interviewing the coaches and participants. Enjoy the videos and photos from the camp.
